Doomsday the lesser the forum topics list the better it will be!

Psi* Looks like good ideas ... although apparently I am mentally challenged today.

But you will get more history & wouldn't it be better to keep things more categorized? Especially since it already is?Thinking about my hard drive & bookmark organization. Just because a bucket is currently empty doesn't mean it won't fill quickly once the pump is primed ... or some thing like that. Remember that we are coming out of a really cr@p recession & ppl will start spending like no tomorrow ... again. Then they will want to brag or whine about things.

Rob Williams Some more proposed changes to improve things...

I'd like to merge "Audio" into "General Hardware".
I'd like to combine "Motherboards" and "Processors" to create "Motherboards & Processors".
I'd like to create an "Industry News" forum which will reside under "General".

Thoughts?

Rob Williams To be honest, I still don't quite understand what the rules for that forum will be, but I hope they will become more clear as time goes on. I'm just going to let things go and see where we end up. It doesn't ENTIRELY have to be tech-related. If it's some important world news, I'm even fine with that. For really off-the-wall news (like a cat stuck in a tree), the Off Topic forum would be a far better spot.

Tharic-Nar Meaning anything really, tech, science, electrical, non electrical, mechanical, engineering, anything generally cool and interesting will suffice. Adventures of your garden lawnmower... probably not, however, if you throw the word Epic in, i'm sure it'll pass.

Quite often, people buy an item, like it, then end up spreading the word through forum posts etc, but they usually only spoon feed over several threads, so if they want, they can condense it down and write a more formal review. Doesn't have to be as in-depth as ours, just any important points you'd like to make, gotcha's and the like.

As with news, if there's something important and/or interesting you've found digging through the 'net, be it old or new, that you'd like to share, instead of making a thread tucked away in one of the subforums, put it in news. Doesn't have to be long, just a few lines to cover the basics of the news, just try and avoid "This is interesting [link]" type posts, as they help no one.

I just realized that you said "live" ... and there they are!! Who will be 1st with something worthwhile. So does "tech" strongly suggest computer related .. or any "tech"? Maybe not necessarily electronic?

Psi* This forum is interesting in that days can go by with *n-o-t-h-i-n-g* and then the world lights up for whatever reason.

I would throw things into the peon ... err ... reader-submitted news & reviews. The economy is picking up, I don't buy Dell (usually) and need max CPU performance. A real splurge for me would be video cards & eye-finity ... and incredible splurge actually, but maybe! i do watch TV on occasion & had stupidly crazy sound systems. I also like to vent into FPS games ... when no one is watching. The point being, I will be buying a variety of hardware in the near months and software to beat it to death.

b1lk1 Very interesting and good changes if you ask me. Can't wait to see what comes of it! Great job Rob!

Rob Williams The problem with small forums like ours is that when a new forum is created, it can take a while before it starts to build up. That's just something I'd like to avoid, because nothing screams "slow-moving" like a forum that doesn't see an update in over a week. We even have some forums like that now... I wish those were more active. I gotta get into gear and start making sure of it :-)

I might try out the submitted reviews forum as well then, and see how it goes. If worse comes to worse, and the reviews section gets a lack of updates, I'll just make it a sub-forum under the reader-submitted section until things build up.

Optix Oooh, the reader reviews section is going to get an...uh...earful when I get my gear if it is around. I would say go for it, Rob. With the varied readership you have I would say there is a ton of different gear floating around.

Some forum changes...

Hi all:

Just a heads-up that I'll be shifting around some things on our forums, to help things make a little more sense. I renamed the General Discussion to Off Topic to make it a bit more obvious, and also moved that entire section up high, since it's one of our most popular. I'm also going to add in a reader-submitted forum for news, and if there's interest, I could also create one for reader-submitted reviews.

I hope I don't confuse things too much with the switching around. Comments and suggestions are of course appreciated.

Thanks!
