Default F1 2011 Review?

Just curious if you'll be doing one I love the way you all do game reviews and how you compare them with so many systems.

Out of curiosity, you wouldn't be the person on my Steam's friend list that already owns the game?

That said, I am planning on picking it up soon, but I am not sure how soon. I am in the middle of working on a lot of bigger projects so devoting time to a full-blown benchmarking run might be a little hard to do in the short-term. I am thinking of implementing both Dirt 3 and F1 2011 into a GPU benchmarking suite refresh though. Both use the same engine, but as neither game looks anything like the other, we might see different results. Plus, F1 2010 featured some tweaks not found in Dirt 2, so the same might be true here.

I don't have it no, my steam name is killem2. I want to get it, but I wanted to see reviews first.

From what I understand, if you turn the aids off, it is back breaking realistic.

As opposed to F1 2010? I admit I didn't get as much F1 2010 in as I would have liked, so I am not sure where the differences would lay. I could install is and see if there's a difference though.

Installing 2011 at the moment... hoping to get some good game time in tonight.

That's part of it. The other thing is, the F.I.A gave codemasters exclusive access to the teams, their specs, telemetry, and so on. So they took a new level with the A.I. and handling.

Alright, that I did not realize. Will have to read into it.

I don't use a wheel, so I don't think my experience will be like most others, but I should still be able to see a difference with the gamepad.

I'm also interested to see the differences graphics-wise between 2010 and 2011; it's hard to tell from the screenshots. There might be none, I'm not sure.

[H]ard|OCP posted a performance look at the game:

I am going to post a review for the game later this week. Still need to load up F1 2010 and get a better feel for the differences.

I "downloaded" it to try it on my laptop.. I only had a keyboard to use and my laptop even though it is a gaming one from late 2009, chocked on the game lol even at low settings. So I will snag it for real on steam soon. I need to get a new case for my downstairs gaming computer so i can put it on the shelf behind my mounted tv.

I am surprised it ran so poorly on a two-year-old machine. The game doesn't have the most spectacular graphics, and it's felt quite accommodating so far. Granted I am running a GTX 580, but I'm running with maxed-out detail, 8xMSAA in-game, 32xCSAA enhanced in the control panel, and still get 69 average FPS. It seems that the only way to truly push this game is to have a multi-monitor setup.

Do you regularly play with the keyboard? I am finding the gamepad to be a challenge; F1 2011 is the first game in a while where I feel like I'd actually want a wheel, when normally I shun them because I suck at them so bad. I am pretty adamant about coming in 1st and have been so far, but the game is still a great challenge.

No i don't normally play with a keyboard, usually its my dual shock analog controller but it wasn't with me at the time. Maybe there was more to my laptop than I suspect. It took me by suprise it has a GTX 260M, 6 gigs of ram, and a core 2 duo cpu .

That notebook sounds more than capable to be honest, so I do think something might have been at work. Could have been one graphics setting that ended up bogging the entire game down. You might want to just revert the entire thing to Medium and then move to DX9 and give it a whirl. Did you run F1 2010 before and have better luck with that?

Didn't try f1 2010. I suppose I could. I didn't turn it down to dx9, where is that setting? I figured it would have been auto matic.

The setting is just among the regular graphics settings. If DX11 is indeed enabled then that could be a big part of the problem.

Can you show me where the option is? I don't see any where in the My F1 -> graphics settings to turn it on or off (if in deed it is on)
